For 2020, the Leyland Society were
invited to bring our Gathering back to Leyland as
part of an expanded Leyland Festival. For many
years the Leyland Festival has been held in the town
and has consisted of a variety of events over a
weekend at the end of June.
The 2020
Leyland Festival will be held from 19 – 21 June 2020
and expanded to cover the whole weekend. The plans
for the event are still being developed but the
outline is as follows:
-
Friday 19 June 2020 – music festival in Worden
Park
-
Saturday 20 June 2020 – Leyland Festival parade
through the Leyland area
-
Sunday 21 June 2020 – Heritage Vehicle display
including the Leyland Society Gathering
As
we prepared this information the details for the
weekend are still being formulated but the
activities will be listed on a new website being
developed by the organisers. We will update the
details here as the plans are finalised.
On the
Saturday of the weekend there will be a parade
through the town and all vehicle owners are invited
to take part. Please note events on Saturday 20th
June are not being organised by the Leyland Society
and if you wish to enter your vehicle in the parade
please contact the British Commercial Vehicle Museum
(www.britishcommercialvehiclemuseum.com)
to register your interest and obtain entry
details.
The Leyland
Society Gathering will be held as usual on the
Sunday of the weekend, the 21st June and
an entry form is available to download
here. It is planned that the vehicles
will be displayed along Hough Lane in the centre of
Leyland town centre which will be closed to through
traffic on that day. The opportunity to display our
vehicles in a road environment is not one that is
often available and we hope as many vehicle owners
will come along and support the event. Once again,
vehicles from all Leyland Group manufacturers (eg
AEC, Albion, BMC, Bristol, Guy, Scammell) are
welcome to attend our event, although preference
will be given to Leyland manufactured or designed
models. Facilities for transporter parking and
unloading over the weekend will be available at the
Leyland Assembly Plant. If you plan to bring your
vehicle on a transporter, it will be necessary to
unload it at the Assembly Plant and drive the short
distance to the display area in the town centre.
Please note that the Leyland Assembly Plant is a
secure area so it will not be possible to stay
overnight in any transporter vehicle. Overnight
parking for display vehicles will be available at
the British Commercial Vehicle Museum. Please
complete the section on the entry form to indicate
which parking you require.
